I am stepping down from moderation for a while.

Postby Dashite » Sun Feb 16, 2014 11:58 am

Hello, in light of recent things I would like to state that I have been bullied into changing Arcane Scrolls access on the IRC to that of something else so that he may be "punished" or done in by other ops because his position in the IRC somehow gives him leverage to say whatever he wants without any way for him to get stopped by another op. Because of the actions or supposed actions there were going to happen and were used as a guilt trip against me to get me to do this action. (Namely it was suicide "supposedly", no I will not name the person) These actions and the bullying used against me stressed me out far more then it should have and I'm not only upset but very disappointed with how the community lashes out on each other like that instead of using their fucking brains and realizing what their problem is instead of doing shit like this, slinging more and more shit at each other. So yeah, Kudos.

Basically I was guilt tripped with the fact that someone was supposedly going to commit suicide, unless I supposedly do something about Arcane_Scroll's access here. And that my actions were an act of betrayal. Because my thoughts on this whole dramafest were nothing but childish fucking acts and even now they feel like childish acts. Now I am just so stressed from this.. it stressed me too fucking hard yesterday.

Please what? Ok, whoever did this better pray I don't find out who it was. No matter who started this or who is at fault here, this is a pretty damn a-hole thing to do.

That's awful. Is there anything I can do to help?

[edit] With the loss of Hidden_Fortune and the temporary stepping down of Nomad, we have taken a severe hit in moderator staff. While Arcane_Scroll has lost Administration rights (at least until this drama blows over and we can have an OP meeting on this), we cannot afford to lose him as a moderator right now as well. And frankly, he deserves the respect of being one. Therefore, I have re-instated him to OP, reducing the severity of his demotion.

[edit 2] I encourage people to read this.

Look, people were just all-around wrong on this one. Tempers flared and people said hurtful things. Others tried to step in and smooth things out between parties, only to find out they shouldn't have interfered in the business of others, and had their attempts at it harshly rejected. Still others decided to be vitriolic about the whole mess and take an 'I told you so' attitude, or worse, took the unpleasantness to other arenas on the Internet.

None of this is healthy. What this hasn't done is fix anything. What it has done is confirm, at least in my cynical eyes, is that while this community may say it's a kinder and friendlier fanbase than most, it is in fact still made up of people. And people are jerks. I once expected better of this group than infighting, and worse, a level of bullying that would make Diamond Tiara look saintly by comparison. I was mistaken, and I realize that I'm not any better either.

To be a little trite, we need to bring back Kindness, Generosity, Loyalty, and Laughter to all our interactions with each other. We've already seen more than enough Honesty; brutal honesty without being tempered by the others is a sharp and two-edged thing that can hurt everyone involved.

So let's leave the fingerpointing behind. I have no moral high ground here, or a high horse to sit atop of. But I will do my utmost to bite back the bitter recriminations and rebukes I feel that I need to level at people, and then take one step further and do a bit of self-examination and ask myself why I feel I need to say those things at all. And maybe do a bit of improving myself as a person on account of it. I encourage everyone to join me on this, and please, call me out on it if you see/hear me being an ass to people who should be my friends.

I don't have anything profound to end this with so here is Doctor Whooves. :drwhooves:

People bullying moderators? What? If they're willing to go that far, just ban the lowlife(s) and be done with it. "Boo hoo, I'll kill myself unless you drastically change the structure of this entire organization to suit my desires! Waaaah!" Whatever.

Call me brutal or cruel, especially in light of Dimestream's comment. But some people really do just want to watch the world burn, and they'll do anything and everything to make it so. Those people need to be dealt with in a suitable fashion to make the place safe and enjoyable for everyone who just wants to get along and have fun.

Reading comprehension, it's a thing. Nobody ever threatened to kill themselves. Someone suggested that someone else might kill themselves over the way Arcane handled things. Personally, knowing the latter person as I do, I wouldn't believe it for a second. Nobody bullied Arcane; at least not until he'd already badly mishandled the situation (and even then I'm not sure if "bullying" applies).

Hey, Arcane's the one who used the phrase 'guilt trip.' The way I see it, using someone else's supposed suicide to get leverage is just as despicable - if not more so - as using your own. Whether it was intended as a guilt trip, well, that remains unclear to me. The tone of Arcane's post was certainly not neutral, nor would I expect it to be.
